چکیده

The amount of electrical energy produced over the lifetime of DTand DHe-fusion power plants is compared to the total amount of energy required to procure the fuel, build, operate, and decommission the power plants. The energy payback ratio is similar for the two quite different fuel cycles, 31 for DHe-fusion and 27 for DT-fusion, even though there is a significant difference in the source of invested energy. The CO2 emission factor is calculated from the energy investment and the source of the various energy inputs. This number is similar for both fusion fuel cycles, with ≈9 tonnes of CO2 per GWeh for DT-fusion and ≈10 tonnes of CO2 per GWeh for D He-fusion.

UWFDM-1063 ``Birth to Death'' Analysis of the Energy Payback Ratio and CO2 Gas Emission Rates from Coal, Fission, Wind, and DT Fusion Electrical Power Plants

The amount of electrical energy produced over the lifetime of coal, LWR fission, DTfusion, and wind power plants is compared to the total amount of energy required to procure the fuel, build, operate, and decommission the power plants. The energy payback ratio varies from a low of 11 for coal plants to a high of 27 for DT-fusion plants. The magnitude of the energy investment and the source of t...

EFFECT OF FUSION REACTION PRODUCTS HEATING ON THE VOLUME IGNITION OF DT AND D3He FUEL PELLETS

Laser fusion simulations are carried out for DT and D- He pellets by using a hydrodynamic code including heating from all charged reaction products and neutrons. It is shown that the inclusion of the side reactions and heating from all reaction products in the fuel pellets have an appreciable effect on the plasma temperature, the ICF drive energy requirement, fusion gain and the ignition c...

بهبود بهره انرژی با پیکربندی سوخت DT+D3He در رآکتور گداخت هسته‌ای با راه‌انداز باریکه یونی سنگین

It is expected that advanced fuels be employed in the second generation of nuclear fusion reactors. Theoretical calculations show that in such a fuel, a high plasma temperature about 100 keV is a requisite for reaction rate improvement of nuclear fusion. However, creating such a temporal condition requires a more powerful driver than we have today. Here, introducing an optimal fuel configuratio...

شرایط گذار به اشتعال غیرتعادلی در افروزش حجمی هدف‌های کروی ساده

In this Research, the transition from equilibrium ignition to non-equilibrium burn was studied by DEIRA4 code for simple spherical targets with the dimensions of several mm. It consisted of inner DT fuel and outer Au layers driven by the 209Bi heavy ions beam. Because of their higher plasma opacity, it was expected that they could trap much of the produced charged particles, radiation or even f...

UWFDM-1214 A Passively Proliferation-Proof Fusion Power Plant

This paper investigates whether a fusion power plant could be designed to be passively proliferation-proof. Even low neutron production rates enable fissile-fuel breeding, so such a fusion reactor must burn neutron-lean fuels. To burn these fuels economically requires a highpower-density fusion concept, and a D-He field-reversed configuration will be analyzed here. The paper discusses physics a...
